starting to plan...

OK, I've been thinking out my cab for a while, and built an all-in-one wonder CP sort of deal a while ago, and then between moving and everything, my plans got put to the side.

Now I'm rolling along again, and I'm really excited about things. So anyway, with my l33t photoshop skillz (har har...) I crafted this picture of where I'm thinking of going. (Yes, I'm aware that this is poor work, I threw it together in 5-10 minutes)

No, I'm not planning on hacking apart a DKjr cab, this will be scratch-built...

I really like the shape of the old Nintendo cabs, as well as the Pacman type. The only problem is that with the sticks "inside" the sidewalls as it were, I'd imagine it be uncomfortable with two people, or even one with uncentered controls. And even though I eventually plan on building modular CPs, at this point I'm planning on going with a single all-in-one CP, similar to the 2 player desktop CP I've built already. So I need more real estate to work with. So this is a rough idea of how I plan to reconcile the style I want with the space I need.

In a final version, I would try and "echo" the curves of the original design in the sides of the CP more.

So does anyone have any ideas, or constructive criticism, etc? I'm particularly wondering about speaker placement with the flush bezel/marquee assembly - I never liked the waist-mounted mono speaker deal, but where else could I put it? Perhaps I could work the speakers into the marquee a la 720?

I may trash this idea all together and go with a more current cabinet design and save this design for the dedicated vertical mame machine I'd like to build as a second cabinet some day (after I stop scheming up the first one!) so as not to ruin the design with this alteration.

Anyway, I've rambled enough. Hopefully in the next couple of days I'll build a model.

Any comments?
