First let me relay some tips for new players:

1. Don't assume that the rusty VGA plug (and the associated cable) on the end of a monitor which is known to be dead can be used to reliably connect a PC to an arcade monitor - I'm embarrassed.

2. Don't assume that "the black wire" from said cable is the RGB signal ground especially when you have tested it and know it to be connected to a pin other than the shell - I'm ashamed and embarrassed.

So if some other dullard posts another query about feint colors and shadowy gray whites, the answer is..."Connect the signal ground you bonehead!"

Thanks for your quick response to my problem and out of curiosity I did hook up the coupling caps. I ended up with black shadows trailing from left to right (in line with the scanlines) behind any graphical object - I will leave these off.

By way of closing, the display looks glorious! It is as bright if not brighter than with the Galaga board. As indicated I am using a 1994 vintage ATI Mach 64 video card. I think I had read before that these are not an ideal choice - seems to be working just fine for me.

Thanks again.
Matt.
