It's *maybe* a sin... If the cabinet is in even reasonable shape, artwork, etc... You might consider advertizing it willing to trade it for a generic cabinet... Or you could put a MAME rig in it, but do it PC2Jamma style and not alter any of the cabinet (beyond of course putting a different control panel on it, saving the original).
Only if it's in absolutely horrible shape should you even consider altering the cosmetics of the cabinet, IMHO... :)
