: Running by Happ Controls' website again, I wondered what REALLY makes a "momentary" pushbutton different from a typical microswitch arcade pushbutton.

: I mean, in THEORY we have agreed that the term "momentary" does describe the usual arcade firebutton, but the Happ diagrams tell me there is something deeper than that to the actual item with that name.

The real difference is somebody put Momentary in the name. That is the only difference. Companies will put that in the name so you know that you are getting an "on while pushed" (momentary) and not a "push on/push off" (toggle) pushbutton. You seem to be fixated with the name "momentary" and thinking that it only makes contact when it is first pressed. This belief is false. The momentary switch is on during the "moment of contact" (while contact is being made). This "moment" may last a second, an hour or years depending upon how long the person wishes to keep holding the button down. I hope this clears it up more for you.
