Try checking if your Laptop, since it does support external monitors, has a manual switych, like the Fn key+a key at the top with a pic of the monitor screen on it. It may not be receiving a strong enough signal from the external screen in the cab. With the Cab, you probably can't rely on it autodetecting the screen.
