Thanks Bill that helps much!!!!

: I have Windows 98 loaded on my PC. I modified the autoexec.bat and config.sys by adding a few lines which create a boot menu. When I turn on the cabinet the menu pops up and I can either select MAME or WIN98. I set it so that if I don’t select anything within 2 seconds it will load MAME automatically. I don’t remember who I got this idea from originally but if you search the message board archives here you should turn up some info. I will post my files separately.

: I like this option because I can get into Window whenever I want, but the cabinet will boot to DOS and start AOS when the kids turn on the cabinet to play. I configured my cabinet so they can play all the games they want without me ever having to worry that they will get into the settings and change things or turn off the cabinet from windows without doing a proper shutdown. The downside is if I do need to do maintenance I have to pull out the keyboard to access the TAB, Enter and other menu keys. (I have to pull out the keyboard and press enter to start WIN98 from the menu which keeps the kids out of there)

: My site is outdated somewhat because I have built an entirely new control panel, and printed a new marquee but all the construction information should be valid. link below.

: If you have any questions just post them. I check the board during the week every day and there are plenty of other folks who can help you with your questions. That is what is great about this hobby, every works together to help each other.

: Anyway good luck!

: : thanks!!!!

: : so you have win98 but boot up to dos? i was thinking of running win98 and then start arcadeos over that? or what is the best way to directly boot up to dos? do you modify the command.com or autoexec.bat files? thanks.

: : : YOu should be able to play most older games at full speed with that system. I have win98 but I boot to dos and load AOS. Takes me less than 30 seconds from the time I flip the switch to the time I press player 1 start on Asteroids. To me the advantages outway this disadvantages. One is if mame ever locks up, I can just turn off the system and turn it back on without having to do a proper Windows shut down. Questions? Just ask. Good luck.
