I don't know what color the wires are, but I have two suggestions:
1: Use a multimeter on each wire to find what pin it goes to (if you don't have a multimeter, use a battery and light).
2: (recommended) Buy a DB-9 connector (like the one inside the sega system) from radio shack and attach wires to that instead of ruining a perfectly good sega controller. Plus, you can plug in any controller, not just one :)
Now, that part about being eternally gratefull.......
