Good use for the Sony, but are you sure you can wait that long? Experts are forecasting at least another 6 years before switching to HDTV will be necessary. Personally, I think it'll be longer than that unless they can figure out how to make a $300 27" HDTV set, or convince the general public (not likely) that they need (and want to pay for) all that extra resolution for watching sitcoms or re-runs of "Family Feud".
I have a funny feeling that plain old NTSC will be with us for a long while to come.
