I'd go with the optical stick, because its more versatile (besides Ikari Warrior type games it works well with Arkanoid, Tron, even Tempest). Cost is roughly the same.

Another important consideration is that the optical stick can connect to one of several interfaces (OptiPac, ME4, etc) whereas the 12-position stick needs a special interface, which as far as I know only Druin makes, and I believe he mentioned he is not going to be making them much anymore.

: First off, there are two kinds:

: Optical rotaries - connect like a spinner to an opti-pac + for rotation and to an I-Pac for movement. They don't click when you turn them.

: Mechanical rotaries - connect through Druin's interface (See the marketplace board here) to an I-pac. They do click but have detents at 12 positions.

: More or less a matter of cost and preference which you go with.
