Rotary joystick and I-PAC??

Hi

Im planning on building my own cabinet and have been sketching on a cp for awhile. I first planed to go with 2 ordinary 8-way joysticks but yesterday i played ikari warriors and know I want to have 2 rotary joysticks. My question now is if I can hook them up to an I-PAC? How do they work? Does each turn generate a "impuls" that I can hook up to the coresponding connector on the I-PAC?
