: Ok i want a neo-geo only arcade mame machine. I want it to boot up to a single game only when i turn it on. i dont want to fuss with keyboards or anything to load up my game. my questions are:

: (1) What should i use as a monitor?? i dont have tons of cash so i think a tv will be ok. Now if i get a tv is it possible to to hook it up to my computer and get good results with out s-video??

Yes. Especially NeoGeo games that tend to have bigger on screen characters. It'll look fine. Try using quality video cables between computer and TV, that makes a big difference.

: (2) What should i have for controls?? I want 2 8 way joysticks and 4 butons per player 1 and 2 player start and want to use the existing coin mec. what should i use i-pac??

I-PAC would be perfect for your project.

: (3) What computer specs will be suffesicent for a neo-geo game?? will a PI 100mhz work good?? do i need more than that??

100Mhz PI will crawl like a snail emulating NeoGeo... Besides a better processor, try the Mame build Emu+ which lets you overclock the "virtual NeoGeo" so games that would have even slowed down on an original NeoGeo will play at full speed all the time on your cab.

As for booting to a specific game, that's easily accomplished in different ways. In Windows, just add a program to your start folder that loads the emulator and the proper game (like mame -dkong) or whatever. In DOS the autoexec.bat can load whatever you want at startup.

Another neat trick in Windows 98 is changing the startup screen (that usually shows the Windows logo). The file "logo.sys" in your root directory (C:\ for instance) is actually a bitmap that shows up while windows boots. Create your own bitmap and save it as "logo.sys" in the root directory and that will show up instead. Make sure its saved in 320x400 resolution and 256 colors (8-bit). I'd back up the original one just in case. But it'd be neat for your cab to show a NeoGeo logo as it boots up then goes into the desired game...
