Should work fine unless you use about 9 feet of wire.

: I am going to build a control panel with external adapters to connect it to my PC, Playstation 2, Dreamcast, Genesis ,... I figure that I would save time and money by building a control panel without an encoder or console gamepad hack inside. I will put the IPAC and console gamepad hacks in individual enclosures and use some type of connector (possibly a parallel port cable) to connect to the control panel microswitches. I don't like the idea of connecting an IPAC and multiple console gamepad hacks to the same control panel microswitches. Each adapter (console gamepad hack or IPAC) will be separate and I'll plug it in to the control panel when I am using that particular system.

: I think that this type of setup would be good for a multi-system control panel (and a multi-system cabinet later). The only drawback that I can think of is the added resistance of long/thin wires and extra connectors. I'm sure there would be some point where the resistance is so high that the IPAC and console gamepad hacks won't work properly. I guess I'll find out.
