I don't think modifying an analog joystick to provide digital output is straightforward, but is not that difficult either. To start, I doubt you can directly connect the joystick to the ipac: the ipac expects an either open or closed state (0,1), but the PC joystick gives you an infinite range of values in between (0,.1, .2, .5, .51, .512, ... 1) that don't think the IPAC would take very well. You need to build a conditioning circuit to convert those values to either 0 or 1. Alternatively, and depending on the joystick construction, you could insert microswitches inside the joystick if you are so inclined... My approach? I would just take the handles and put them in a WICO joystick. That was in fact my plan when I saw this joystick in CompUSA some time ago.
