When i needed to solder i used cat-5 wire. translation. if you have ever cut up network line or telephone line then it is the stuff inside. more than one wire. it is pretty strong and thin. as far as a connector, i would use a male and female connector. yeah bad description. go to a electroncs store. i think that stuff is a personel pref.
