The above picture is how far you can take a monitor apart without damaging it.
The 'Vacuum tube thingy' is probably the anode of the monitor, a monitor CRT is basically a fancy vacuum tube. If there's a Ciruit Board attached to the small end of the monitor, it should pull straight out from the CRT.
: now there is still wires connected to a round board which is attached to a a glass vaccume tube looking thingy at the bottom of my monitor.
