: It matters in some games more than others. Some people find Pac Man unplayable with an 8-way. I have the Namco Classics for PSX, and with my 8-way joystick, it was so hard to control Pac Man I gave up on it. The joystick was ok for the other games, but not pac man.

: Some people have made switchable 4-way/8-way joys, some have a dedicated 4-way.

: : I read alot of posts with people asking about switching their 8-way stick to 4-way for Donkey Kong etc. Is it really that much of a pain to play a 4-way game on an 8-way stick? You're basically doing the same thing with your 8-way game pad and it doesn't bother me...

: : Also, there are only 4 switches regardless of the stick type, the only "conversion" is just a piece of plastic on the base of the stick that prevents diagonal movement, right?

: : I just want a stick setup (8-way) that will work fine with everything. I don't want to go opening my controller up every time I play Donkey Kong etc.
