quick reply, I'm very sleepy...

Anyway, with a TV you will be stuck at 50/60 Hz. Games at 53 etc. will be choppy. Plus unless you use SCART (lucky Europeans!!!) there will be some degree of color bleeding in the image.

IMO the best way to go nowdays is to buy a VGA compatible arcade monitor like the Wells Gardner u3100 or D9200. They sync withing the needed range for arcade games, there's no bleeding and they have smooth, rounded pixels unlike normal PC monitors. Normal arcade monitors have some real limitations with resolutions and horizontal scan rates.

Depending on your situation, it may be worth asking yourself what games you care about most, what money you have to spend then go from there.

One advantage to a TV BTW - they give very bright, very rich colors. No matter what you do there's always a tradeoff. :)

: I'm considering the possibility of buying a big tv-set for using with MAME. I've heard tvs display a very simmilar picture to original arcade monitors, which, by the way, are not easy to find in Europe. However, I have some doubts about this decission. Firstly, will I be able to display all games correctly? I guess I should not have problems with games at 60hz/60fps, but what happens with games at 53, 55 or 57hz? As far as I know, tv-sets, as well as arcade monitors, are not multisync. Am I wrong? Another point is the European standard: PAL, which displays 50hz, and not 60hz like NTSC. I've heard, however, that most modern tv-sets accept both modes (actually many modern console games let you choose between 50fps and 60fps). Finally, should I go for a 100hz tv, or would that be a problem? (in my pc monitor I see jerky scrolls with that refresh rate, and only perfect scrolls with 60 or 120hz, with standard 60hz games I mean). Now, could someone clarify this to me? Will I have problems in this sense with tv-sets? Would I have them too if I pick up an arcade monitor?
