Should I buy a TV-SET for MAME?

I'm considering the possibility of buying a big tv-set for using with MAME. I've heard tvs display a very simmilar picture to original arcade monitors, which, by the way, are not easy to find in Europe. However, I have some doubts about this decission. Firstly, will I be able to display all games correctly? I guess I should not have problems with games at 60hz/60fps, but what happens with games at 53, 55 or 57hz? As far as I know, tv-sets, as well as arcade monitors, are not multisync. Am I wrong? Another point is the European standard: PAL, which displays 50hz, and not 60hz like NTSC. I've heard, however, that most modern tv-sets accept both modes (actually many modern console games let you choose between 50fps and 60fps). Finally, should I go for a 100hz tv, or would that be a problem? (in my pc monitor I see jerky scrolls with that refresh rate, and only perfect scrolls with 60 or 120hz, with standard 60hz games I mean). Now, could someone clarify this to me? Will I have problems in this sense with tv-sets? Would I have them too if I pick up an arcade monitor?
