I was going to make my own guns for T2 as well. I got a couple of toy guns, you could put a microswitch to where it gets pressed by the trigger, be sure to remove anything that the gun uses to make noise. As for the color, why not just paint it? That'd make it easier to find a gun (most toy guns are bright colors).
