My two cents.

I really like Sony TVs, they definately cost more but I think the trinitron picture tube lives up to the hype :) Check out consumerreports.org (the magazine) - they do good reviews of TVs and I trust them pretty completely.

BUT - I'm not sure it would be worth it to spend the extra money for a mame cab, I really don't think that any games would take advantage of the extra clarity/blacks/lack of bleeding, etc... What makes a CRT/TV look so much better than a monitor is the fact that it does bleed and is basically not as good (although for this it is FAR better). I think maybe some of the 16 bit graphics/later neo-geo and now capcom games might really take advantage of a good TV but otherwise I'd be surprised.

If you are going to run AOS with a CRT/Monitor in dos I HIGHLY suggest getting an old ATI rage card. I just went through my stash of video cards (about six or so) and I was running AMame and other wierdness that was kind of pain and not quite as nice to try and get everything to work - when I tried a Rage card with AOS it worked perfect right away. You can get a utility (I believe in the AMame cab .zip file) that will set you to crt/tv refresh when you turn on and let you run dos and windows that way on your crt/tv.

Ok - back to work for me :)
