: Installing a Happ 3.5” Trackball question?
: I have just bought a Happ 3.5” Trackball. This came with a face plate – this is a square metal plate that’s about 2mm thick.
: If I want to install the trackball onto a ¾’ thick wood control panel, how is the trackball face plate installed in?
: Does a grove need to be cut out of the control panel that is the size of face plate down to a depth of 2mm (thickness of the plate)?
: If so, how is the grove cut out (ie what equipment, tools are used).
: OR
: Is the Face plate installed on top of the panel, so that it sticks out above the panel by 2mm.
: Look forward to anyone’s feedback that has installed a Happ track ball with the face plate. Your help would be appreciated.
: Kind Regards

Most people prefer the plate be flush with the top of the control panel (same height). If you have a piece of plexi covering your panel you may wish to recess the plate into that instead of the plywood. If not recess it in the plywood. A router with a straight cutting bit is most often used for such a task.
