A programmable controller is always a big plus. Many very good programs don't have mappable keys, especially older games and the like. Even ones that do often have limits on which keys can be used. If you stick to a handful of emulators you might be OK, but it sure doesn't hurt to have the extra flexibility.

: : HOT ROD looks good but i read it has problems with soem emus cause it can't be programmed unlike the STICK IT..where can i buy a stick it? I have it down to Stick it vs Hotrod....

: If you can find it in yourself to use emulators which allow re-configurable input keys, HotRod should work fine with them, no?
