Consider getting a lamenint cover over plywood. Cheap and looks good.
You can also buy it at BuildersSquare type places already together.
Purchase an old control panel from an old game on ebay.
Plexi-glass. Still clear, but can drill through it. Then if you wanted you could put some tinting stickers to make it darker... then add some christmas lights under it... now that would look cool.
