drills aren't designed for cutting sideways. the bearings are different in a drill than they are in something like a router. drills don't spin very fast either. if you tried to use a cutting bit in a drill to cut a groove in particle board, you would probably ruin the drill before you could finish the job. cutting plastic or even light metal would probably be ok, but i think you ought to stay away from cutting much wood.
