you can use two Gravis Gamepad Pros in one gameport. They have a built in Y adapter that allows a second controller to be plugged in. This is what I will be doing for my upcoming cabinet. If WinMAME works alright on my computer, then I will also add two USB Gamepad Pros so my cab will be FOUR PLAYERS!

: Hello, I'm new to the whole "cabinet" scene, but I have been building some pretty interesting stuff built around PCs for a long while. Anyways, I have read a lot about the keyboard matrix problem and how it only allows 4 key presses at once. My question is, in building a 2-player mame cabinet, with 8-way joysticks, that basically means 2 people can basically move at once (if using the diagonals). How do you get around this? Will there be a noticeable difference in control if one controller is hooked to a keyboard and the other a joystick to the gameport? (AKA, will I fight with people to be 1st player because it works better? hehe) Or is there some way to use 2 gamepads on the same PC? (No USB ports so I can't do 1 on a gameport, the other on USB)

: I know there were a lot of questions in there...tell me if you need anything clarified. I've looked at a bunch of the sites on building controls and I haven't really found any and just address this issue directly. I don't want to fork over $70 for an encoder, so maybe instructions on how to make one would work. Point me in the direction of one if you know of one. Thanks.
