after reading up on trackballs and emailing doug for info (at the time he was only one I could find on this board that was using them) I bought a Imperial (now Betson) ps2 trackball.... and it was worth every penny. I have the compuas trackball and there really is no comparison. I sometimes do experience the strobing effect you talk of but my solution was just set the sensitivity up. Then you don't have to spin it as fast. This may not be exactly like the arcade (golden tee comes to mind) but it is functional. The imperial trackball is the best, hassle free solution for our cabinets IMHO.

Hope this helps,

JimK

: after hacking one, breaking it and then hacking another I ended up spending about $50 in track balls and $2000 in heartbreak and misery. Do yourself a favor and pick up an Imperial PS/2 trackball and be done with it..only $79 with no hassels!!
