: Basically, any kind of fast spin on it just doesn't work. It really show in Major Havoc, because instead of running madly across the screen, the major just kind of does a little stuttering dance. So, is this something that all cheap PC trackballs do, or just mine?

Its called 'strobing', where the optic wheels inside the trackball are spun faster than the optics can read it. In some cases, it may even cause the direction to be read 'backwards'

Trackballs for PCs were never designed to be 'spun' in an arcade fashion. They were meant to be rolled about (relatively slowly) to move a pointer within the confines of a computer screen.

Further hardware hacking may be required if you wish to keep your current setup. Such as reducing the number of gaps/holes in the optic wheels.

(This also goes for mouse2spinner conversions.)
