For a general idea, if you can, dig out an old NES or SNES, or any old console that you happen to have that has a decent emu for your computer system, and set it up on your TV. Then play the emulator on the computer (make sure you're not using any video smoothing modes, and stretch the picture out as much as you can.) And compare the two. You'll see exactly what cryofax is refering to.
