"Classic" isn't usually considered a subjective term but maybe it should be (IMO, obviously). Who decides what is classic? What makes a game classic? No one person does--that's for sure. (I guess that's why you're asking everyone here and at the newsgroup.) It's decided by an entire generation. Or maybe generations (plural), as the other factor needed for anything great to become a classic is time.

As for not "mame-ing" an arcade game that you don't care about, who other people consider classic, why not just give or sell it to someone who does (or maybe a museum)? Or maybe someone would be willing to trade their "crap" for your "classic". The thing to do of course is to post on a message board or newsgroup for interested parties.

Or screw it all and just do what you want. Aren't there (enough) classic arcade games in museums already? We're not talking about original holy texts here. If you're not interested in owning it yourself (either today or in the future), why does knowing there are a few extra GAMES lieing around somewhere comfort you anyway?

Be kind if you disagree. : )
