If you can do it, I would strongly suggest getting a keyboard encoder (check out the interface section). That is by far the easiest way to go, and there will be no chance of ghosting.
Happ controls is a popular place for parts (check out the links section). Joysticks will cost you about $15.00 each and buttons are about $1.50 each. You can get a coin box anywhere from $10.00 for a used one or $75.00 for a new one from happs. I bought a nice one for $20.00 on Ebay. Then of course you'll need a cabinet to put that coin box in. Check locally, look in the 'amusement devices' section of your yellow pages and call around, you might find one for free or a small fee.
