no extra power supply is need...You only need one if you are going to make the Trackball light up.

Hmmm. Sounds like a work of art. Let's see, at $300 for the encoder + 49.95 for the trackball interface + 19.95 for the power supply, charging anything less than $370 is a bargain.

: Nicely done. Sounds like you thought this out well.

: So does the encoder require an additional power source (aside for the keyboard power)?

: : Ahh the Joys of 72 Inputs !! Here is what you get with 72 inputs:
: : If you look at our panels, Panel #2 uses the most inputs (42) so lets say pins 1-42 are used on the encoder. (15 for player one, 15 for player 2 and 12 misc. like coin in and what not)
: : Well there is no game in MAME that needs 2 players with 2 joysticks (yet).
: : So with our system you can unplug player 2(lets say player 2 uses pins 16-30) and plug it into pin 43-57. Now I said our Encoders were defaulted for MAME, well it just so happens that pins 43-57 are defaulted to the exact keys as player one. So now two players can take turns playing,oh say ROBOTRON and not have to pass the joysticks back and forth.
: : Now lets say pins 57-72 are defaulted to a 4 player configuration, oops Did I let the cat out of the bag? anyway now there isn't really a lot of need to reprogram the encoder..you can just move the plugs or change panels at will, every game is right there....BUT WAIT THERE"S MORE!!!!
: : did I mention the encoder has the interface for happs trackball already built in???No external power supply need.
: : Look to have one panel that does everything is almost impossible..But this way Changing Panels works..

: : BTW the colors page should be up tomorrow, you can get all the basic colors red, blue, black and such, but how about granite?, Polished Aluminum,Copper,Gun Metal, Checker board.

: : Thanks to everyone for everything.

: : : - I was planning on getting the KE-24, but I really wanted to have all direct inputs so I wouldn't have to worry about ghosting or masking etc.. I know you are using a 2x22 matrix and that is ok, but I'm also going to make a 4 player panel some day and it would be nice to have all direct inputs for that too. That's kinda why I was thinking about getting the 72 input encoder. True I only need 27 now, but I'll need about 50 or so when I make the 4 player panel in the future. Plus it's always nice to know that you have extra inputs if you need them. That's just me though...

: : : Game on!! Brian

: : : : The KE24 is great. But for the purist who wants to use *direct* inputs exclusively, 24 probably isn't enough. (But I've never had problems with my 2x22 matrix, though.)

: : : : I'm curious to know how many inputs some of your projects need. 72 sounds like a hell of a lot. I can't think of a control panel large enough to house that many microswitches!

: : : : I would love to hear about some of your plans for this Encoding Beast.

: : : : Ray, do you have an estimated cost? The KE24 costs approximately $4.16 per direct input. At that rate, you could charge, oh, about $300. ;)
