In Reply to: Why? Aren't 2,500 games good enough? Just wondering what would be so devastating. posted by Agent davis on 25, 2001 at 7:56 PM:

While your point is well taken, there is still lots of games that would benefit from tweaking in order to improve their performance. As well, as system speeds improve, there are a whole host of additional more recent games that are begging to be emulated. Personally, I'd love to build a Golden Tee cab with one of the recent versions of that game.

: : If that's the case, that will put a serious cramp on those of us in the hobby that rely on the DOS version for our classic arcade cabs.

: : : I'm sure by now everybody will have read this on retrogames but i thought i'd mention it anyway.

: : : Quote from retrogames:

: : : DOS MAME Going Away? - I have just learned that Nicola will now be using the new Win32 port (as mentioned on MAME WIP) for official MAME development. According to Nicola, this will become his development environment starting with the next Mame beta (e.g. the DOS port will be included but only given minor testing). Also, not mentioned on the WIP page, but Bernd Wiebelt ported the command line interface code from x-mame to the new MAME32, and it sounds like some of this code will move into the core. This will allow a more common CLI among the various MAME ports. As a front-end author this is a greatly welcomed improvement, many thanks to Bernd for doing this! - chris
