Here are a few suggestions that might come in handy.

1. How about a few outputs as well, so that you could
(with a little external circuitry) drive lamps for buttons
that light up (like the steering wheel button in
spyhunter). Making these logic level outputs would
be fine, anyone wanting to use them would need to buffer
the output appropriately with transistors/relays etc. Of
course software would need to be written to control these
outputs, but the keyboard interface is bidirectional, so
it should be possible.

2. Some extra inputs (or maybe the ability to set aside
a few of the regular inputs) that could be used to
specify which of several interchangable control panels
is connected to the interface. The interface could then
reconfigure itself apropriately.

3. Two trackball support (or 4 spinners). Didn't
marble madness have 2 trackballs for head to head
play, and I am sure some of the football games had
2. Also, as I remember Warlords had 4 spinners.
