some monitors have holes on the backs where you stick a little screwdriver to adjust the focus, and other things, so you don't have to take it apart or anything. you could just leave the tool in the case and reach behind it for focus.

i recalibrated a 21 inch monitor once (convergence, focus, etc.) it took about a day, but i didn't really know how to do it either...
