: This may sound ridiculous to you EE fellas, but I really don't know; can you simply run two wires from the same pushbutton microswitch, one to a keyboard encoder, the other to a hacked gamepad, such that when the pushbutton is pressed, signals are sent to both units? This would allow you to keep functionality for a lot more non-emu computer programs, especially older games which don't support game pads, but still allow you to play console games in the cabinet, and without the cost of additional controller converters.

I have my Dreamcast Hacks and Ke72 encoders wired up exactly as you describe and its working for me. I just made sure that the buttons that were serving a dual purpose, when being used in DC mode did nothing to arcadeOS. I used Mad Catz dreampads for the hack.
