In Reply to: ***Opinions Please*** - Should I buy a Japanese sitdown cab or not? posted by Proph on 24, 2001 at 12:44 PM:

You should definetly get one. In fact, I almost bought the one you are looking at. I got a Tecmo model instead. Basically the same though. I went from a U3100 in an old school Taito cab to a Japanese sit down cab with a 29" (really more like 27" but they like to round up). Much like you, I had plans to replace the monitor. I also planned on adding a port so I could plug in SNES pads or PSX light guns. I also planned on putting my Dreamcast in there. None of it panned out though. Playing MAME on it has been THAT good. Neogeo games look like a dream on it. CPS1 and 2 games look unbelievable. Best of all, when using VsyncMAME, vertical games look great too (on the horizontal monitor), and Robotron (my personal fav)plays great! The Japanese buttons and joysticks are, in my opinion, better than the US counterparts. Sitting down to play is MUCH more comfortable, and there is plenty of room for 2 players. If you are like me, and feel 2 joysticks and 6 buttons a piece is plenty, the shallow control pannel is not a problem. It is possible to add a spinner and trackball, but you will have to consult with Dr D on that one. The overall Japanese feel is nice as well. Mine has Japanese "No Smoking" and Yen stickers on it, and a big sticker that I can't read. But it is in Japanese, so it looks cool no matter what it says. Overall, it is a very unique feel, and a great gaming experience. I highly recomend ANYONE who loves arcade games get one. If you are getting it from arcadestuff on ebay, he has good deals. I got mine for around 350 shipped. Only downside is you can't physically see it, and there is a possibility of recieving a damaged unit. Arcadestuff was very nice to me though, and even drilled the extra 3 button holes per player for free. To sum all this maddness up, yes! get it. You will be happy. If you have any other questions, just ask.
