Steering wheel spinner?

Hello all...I've just discovered MAME and am interested in building my own cabinet. A couple of my favorite arcade games were Super Sprint and Ivan Stewart's Off Road. What I'm wondering was...will a spinner work in the same manner as the steering wheels did in the arcade??...could you some how attach a steering wheel to a pre existing spinner control?? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
