Myself, I wired up two hacked PSx gamepads to PSx-to-USB adapters, and it appears to Windows as two joysticks. Then I use a keyboard emulator called "JoyEm" to convert the button-presses to keyboard inputs.

This works fine, but there are two caveats:

- programs that use Direct Input (keyboard) won't take the keystroke commands. Fortunately, MAME32 lets you choose whether to use DI or not, so this hasn't been an issue for me. (and I can use them as joysticks in other programs if need-be).

- sometimes Windows will 'switch' what it thinks joystick 1 and 2 are on startup, as they're both USB devices. Which is a minor pain, but it's easy enough to switch settings in JoyEm.

And I can always connect the controls up to a real Playstation or my Dreamcast. :) Works great...

Anyway, hope that helps. My site's got some extra information that might be of use.

NightWolf.
