You can't plug the card into some motherboards because they have no ISA slots.

: Get a Soundblaster ISA sound card from Creative Labs. They work flawlessly in DOS, because they were designed for DOS. I recommend what I use--the Soundblaster AWE64. It is the most advanced ISA soundcard from Creative, and is ideal for all DOS games. Some people prefer the regular SoundBlaster 16 or SoundBlaster Pro for MAME since it doesn't add any attempt at 3D sound, but instead just plays it straight. I happen to prefer the AWE64's better sound and the advanced features it has which are used by many DOS games. Make sure to run the set-up program in DOS, so that it will set your environment variables for you.

: You can get one for $20 at http://www.pricewatch.com/1/202/1040-1.htm
