I bought a hole saw first...and it worked for a few holes...then it got very hard to press....I weigh in at around 235 and I was putting most of my body weight on the drill.

Then I bought a spade bit with the small *fangs* on the outer edges of the spade...went through much MUCH easier. I have drilled 3 or 4 panels and the bit still does a good job.

I have no drill press...so I lay out the panel and start all holes from the underside. If you drill the mounting holes for a joystick from the top and drill a bit crooked, then stick won't mount. If you start your holes from the underside all holes will line up with the mounting holes on the stick.

Always have a scrap board under your work when drilling from the underside to prevent chipping when you break through.

When drilling the button holes I start from the underside and drill until the long center point breaks through the top surface....then I flip the board and drill from the top using the center hole as my guide. Only drill from the top if your spade bit has the little *fangs* on it...the kind without will likely make a mess of things.

I drill all button holes from the bottom first..then flip...not one at a time.
