Try something like Bank Panic - when moving left/right, the scrolling should be REALLY smoothe. Could also test using Traverse USA or Battle Flip Shot which has a diagonally scrolling background on the attract screen (insert a coin).

*However* if you play from Windows, you probably wont notice much of a change as Windows will be there in the background, constantly interrupting the smoothe scrolling :(

The fact that you didnt get any error when using -vsync probably means it's working. Do u get an error when using it on games like R-Type, SmashTV, Moon Patrol etc., which all use odd refresh rates?
