: Ok I think I see. So the current mame has a linear analog joystick setting, but for Sinistar it should be more, um, logarithmic or exponential?

Well, I believe mame does it right... but because it is too 'easy' to move most new sticks,
it becomes too easy to get out of control.

The original was more like a leaf joy... pretty solid and needed a good deal of constant pressure.

Imagine if you were on a Super fast motorcycle. A tiny turn of the throttle will jump that mama to 80mph in like 3 seconds.

Now imagine if you put in an easier to turn spring... and increased the gasflow !!!

You wouldnt be able to keep the bike under 80mph at all! You would speed up too fast, and to compensate... you would slow down too abruptly.
You would Overshoot your stopping points as well.
This is what is happening.

The solution is to reduce the speed (gas flow), by making only the Outer edges be the Increase-ers in speed... and or to decelerate quicker. Also - even the Middle range speed should be slower... In most mame controls, I have to Turn up the rate super high to be able to control them... yet this one I have to almost 'zero' the rate... and its still too fast.

Finally, the Original Sinistar used optics. This is another reason that the slower speeds may have been easier to maintain. The 49 readouts may be a lot more accurate that the values contained in a computer joy's pots.. (also taking note that the PC joy's pot's are not fully turned!)

Can someone Port this over to the proper mame dev please? I cant remember my passwords to the darn boards.

Thanks,
Xiaou2
