Hooray glad you got it sorted.

Believe it or not, standard resolution monitors width can be massive, anything upto 1600 I believe, they are just limited to the CRT height which is 240 (NTSC) and 256 (PAL), although adjusting the frequency you can get more lines ~57hz = 256, ~30hz = 480.

I hope that clears up the monitor res that everybody seems to confused about.

What happens in 640x480 mode is the same as 640x480 run on a monitor,we just don't see the lines it draws for scanlines. (hence a interlaced image), width is doubled (providing it can be doubled).

Even though it has to double pixels it is far quicker than modex modes (well banked ones anyway).
