MAME DOS issues tend to revolve around one of three issues:
1) Sound - Unlikely to be the problem here since you implied that some games are working.
2) Video - Possibly the cause, try specifying a screen resolution instead of allowing it to choose.
3) Memory - Also possible, If you are playing memory hungry games and are borderline on ram. You would not see this in windows because of Window's virtual memory.

Almost everything can be narrowed down do one of these things, with the exception of running funky tsr's in memory while playing (but I assume if you are then this is the first thing you would check). Hope this helps.

: from windows explorer I can launch AOS and play my games fine. when I boot to dos and launch AOS, it will not run most of the games and I get a half of a screen of errors including the above text for a fraction of a second. any ideas?
