the 'device' is basically going to be a box'o'connectors with a JAMMA fingerboard sticking out of it, to hook my PC and other things into the JAMMA cab (it'll have an IPAC in it, amongst other things). I'm not gonna be doing any scanrate conversion, i'm leaving that down to getting the right output from the PC, but The box will do the proper combination of H and V syncs from the VGA, and i'm investigating switching the VGA input on and off based upon the scanrate (i.e. to protect the moitor from high scanrates) If i manage this, i'll post the details, of course. But basically my idea was to also bolt into this thing, a means of inputing RGB video from other sources (i.e. the SCART input from PS2 etc.).

: The SCART cable of a Playstation gets its sync from the composite video pin. Most monitors don't like this added noise, so you have to seperate the composite sync from the video. The Gamesx site has info on how to make this small circut using an LM1881 chip.

: I've made the hacked RGB/SCART cable, and have been able to successfully hookup my PS and PS2 to my arcade monitor. Note, if your monitor accepts both H and V sync, use this rather than composite sync as you will get a more stable picture. The LM1881 will output both.

: : The only similarity between an arcade monitor and a TV is that both take a Std Res (15kHz) signal. European and Japanese TVs are more like a Arcade monitor because of the RGB SCART input (v.s. the inferior composite input of US TVs).

: : I don't understand what this "device" is you are trying to build (I'm guessing its a downscan converter?...to make a 31kHz VGA signal into a 15kHz signal?).

: : If you buy a Japanese SCART cable for your playstation, you should be able to hook it up to your JAMMA connector no problem. Just a note on SCART cables...there is the European SCART and the Japanese SCART. Both look like the same adapter, but the pins are totally different between the two of them. www.gamesx.com has info on both types.

: : : I read earlier that the signal spec for arcade monitors is in fact the same as that of TV's (be they PAL or NTSC respectively), so is it reasonable to assume that on the device i'm building to route the VGA output from my PC to the monitor, one could also put a SCART sockect and wire up the RGBS also to the JAMMA connector, and use that when I wanted to plug a playstation or whatever into it? (assuming the RGB's on the SCART cable were connected?)
