If you use Advancemame, vertical games are quite playable on a horizontal low-res monitor.

: Make sure you get a VGA capable 25" monitor or vertical games will NOT run correctly. Most arcade monitors are the low res type, capable of only 240 pixels vert. Most old vert games run at 288, so the game will either chop off the top and bottom, or not run correctly at all. I have a WG U2000 low res in my Killer Instinct cabinet, and I am planning on getting a WG D9200 27" to replace it just for this reason. It's a shame, my monitor is in great shape but I can't run vertical games on it. For a write up on how to connect VGA to arcade RGB, see link below. (Thanks Mr. Salty) This is how I did it and it works great. Good luck!
