Hey Chuck - I think the format is name|shortname - download the clist or console stuff from the arcadeos site - there's some sample files in it.

I create my nms files by going to a c prompt and typing dir>filename.txt

this will create a file with the dir listing - then go to excel and open that file - use space delimited to parse the file into separate columns, then use the concatenate command to put the file in a correct format with the | symbol between the long name and the short name. It sounds harder than it actually is. give it a try. If you dont have excel, you could create the file and email it to me and I'll do it for you - it only takes me a minute to do it.

cheers

: When I use ArcadeOS under PureDOS, I don't see long filenames. For MAME, this is not a problem. However, for other emulators whose roms were renamed using tools such as GoodSNES, GOODNes, etc.. it makes it very difficult. I know ArcadeOS supports .NMS files which I think are used to map short names to long names, but I can't find the format of this file in any of the supplied documentation. Has anyone used .NMS files for this purpose? If so, can you post (or e-mail) an example?

: Also, I've tried the lfndos driver which gives long filenames under DOS. It works, but the problem is that it slows down everything. Moving around ArcadeOS in MAME takes about 5 times as long to bring up a screenshot.

: Thanks,

: Chuck
