that's the conclusion i came to when i tried it out on Star Wars last night. with the wingman it's a bit of a pain, because most of the "spring" comes from the rubber collar (dust boot) at the base of the stick. somehow i ended up breaking the feet that hold the hat-swich to the pcb, but epoxy took care of that.
