You want the stick as loose as possible, cause you dont want to have to 'fight' with the stick. A tough spring can make it hard to do small adjustments - and hold them there.
Im going to try to remove the spring on mine - to see if its better without one. I think it would be easier to hold the stick in the center than to force it out all the time.
