does the dreampad madkatz dreamcast controller use 1 ground?

ive got the controller torn apart and mine doesnt have the little holes to solder wires to, it has a pcb going thru the main board perpindicular and has nice solder points execpt for the ground...weird????

anyways it looks like there are three grounds 1 for the six buttons, 1 for the dir-pad, and one for start.
i thought they all used the same ground because a matrix layout shows:

u-d-l-r--------------
--------1-2-3-4-5-6--
--------------------s

which if they use a common ground it would be easliy wired as
u-d-l-r-1-2-3-4-5-6-s

anyone know the answer to this?
